Please help a Biology student! I'm trying to find information on the role of aquatic plants such as Elodea and the function they play in the ecosystem. Any information on how this plant benefits the oceans and rivers they occupy is really really helpful!

Please Help! Thank You!

Elodea canadensis and nuttallii are invasive alien species in Europe. But along with their negative impacts on biodiversity and the environment, they can have som beneficial effects on water quality, even in invaded areas. I suggest that you check out the fact sheet on Elodea at http://www.nobanis.org/files/factsheets/Elodea.pdf and the DAISIE fact sheet at http://www.europe-aliens.or[…]Factsheet.do?speciesId=1052
They will give you an introduction to the issues and problems involved. Be sure to take a close look at the reference lists as they will give you a good idea of where to search for more in-depth scientific articles. Melanie Josefsson, Project Manager Invasive Alien Species, EEA
