Dear EEA Team,

Let me wish you a happy new year, full of progress for the environment!

I was really interested in your 2018 report titled "Current water status, progress achieved and futur challenges" as it allows some benchmark with what is going on in the EU as a whole. Unfortunately there seem to be a mistake in the ordinate scale of figure 6.6, both for the legend (mg P/l instead of mg NO3/l) and probably the numbers as well. The correct figure can be found here : https://www.eea.europa.eu/d[…]ter-assessment-published-6. Unfortunately it has not been updated and data go no further than 2012.

Could you possibly edit a new pdf version of the report with the right figure? Or update the web figure?

Thanks a lot for your help. Best regards.

Hello Christophe,

Our apologies for our delayed reply.

With regard to 2018 report you mention in the enquiry, kindly note that the report in question was a consultation version. You may wish to refer to EEA Report No 7/2018: European waters Assessment of status and pressures 2018, which may be accessed at the following link: https://www.eea.europa.eu/publications/state-of-water

In the latter published EEA report, a corrected Figure 6.6 is available on page 68. The figure for nitrate in rivers is updated to 2015, while the diagram on nitrate in groundwater only had data up to 2012 (due to issues on aggregating to groundwater bodies).

You may wish to be advised that during autumn, the underlying indicator diagrams have been updated and the Agency is starting a country consultation on the indicator. We expect the final indicator to be published in March.

Should you wish, we have an updated diagram on nitrate in groundwater, which we can share. If you provide us with your email address or if you write to us at info@eea.europa.eu, we will be able to forward it too. Unfortunately, the EEA Forum does not allow us to send attachments with our note.

We hope this information may be useful to you.

Kind regards,
EEA Enquiry Service
