Reducing the amount of discarded consumer electronic equipment.
Much consumer electronic equipment is battery powered with batteries that are difficult or impossible to replace. If the EU was to issue a regulation requiring that battery powered consumer electronic equipment with a unit cost in excess of 20 euros had to have user replaceable batteries this would reduce the amount of equipment that was discarded due to battery failure. (The 20 euro limit is to exempt small items such as talking greeting cards for which battery replacement is not needed.)
