I am looking for an overview about the different plastic collection systems in each EU country. Are data for this topic available? E. g. Germany has a yellow bag for plastics, what systems are implemented in other countries?

Dear 'Marbur',

Thank you for contacting the European Environment Agency (EEA).

We are not aware of any central database with information on types of collection systems per EU country. Nevertheless, we might suggest you to consult the European Commission study on collection systems in EU capital cities that gives a comprehensive overview on this subject (including plastic waste collection systems). The study is available at: http://ec.europa.eu/[…]/Separate%20collection_Final%20Report.pdf. You might also consult the work undertaken by ACR+ at: http://www.acrplus.org/en/.

Other links of potential interest could be:

- EUROSTAT - How much plastic packaging waste is recycled: https://ec.europa.eu/[…]/DDN-20181129-1
- European Parliament - EU Facts and Figures on Plastic Waste and Recycling: http://www.europarl.europa.[…]in-the-eu-facts-and-figures

Last but not least, please note that the EEA will be publishing a report on waste prevention for plastics later on this year. It will be made available on our website.

We hope that this information will be useful for you.

With kind regards,
EEA Enquiry Service

A central data base would be a useful idea to assist new technologies within waste plastics.

One system soon to market from Powerhouse Energy Group, UK, allows non recyclable plastics to be converted into energy without incineration.

Electrical energy and road fuel quality hydrogen with virtual zero toxic waste byproduct is already found success at the University of Chester, Thornton Science park, where Powerhouse Energy, is located along with the DMG, prototype available to view in operation.
