Hi, good afternoon,
Each EU member state is allowed to implement the packaging and packaging waste directive in its own way. Where can I find the current legislation in each member state on this topic (an overview)? E.g. The Netherlands just abolished a packaging tax (as of January 1, 2013), Germany makes use of the Ordinance on the Avoidance and Recovery of Packaging Waste and the Green Point, etc. We are planning EU websales and want to be compliant. Thank you very much for your assistance!

Dear René,

We unfortunately do not have such an overview at the EEA. However, you may want to consult the ETC/SCP report ‘Europe as a Recycling Society’ where you can find some information on this topic:
You can also find information in the SOER country assessments on waste on the EEA website (
Lastly, you can check the factsheets on waste policies (However, please be aware that there isn’t one for every countries and some of these documents can be a little outdated):

I hope this will help.

Thank you very much for your help! The ETC/SCP report is very usefull. It indicates in a general way which procedures are adopted in which member states and it shows that NL and DK are variant. We are also trying to get hold of the information with the EC in Brussels (environmental department C2). We hope it's available there.
