Good morning. I am trying to find out which countries within the EU have facilities where damaged lithium ion batteries can be disposed of or recycled. Does anyone know when I may be able to obtain such information please?

Dear M. Mathew Perkins,

Thank you for contacting the European Environment Agency (EEA).

We are unfortunately not aware of such a list. We might suggest you to have a look at the following documents, which may be of interest for you:

- DG Environment Page: https://ec.europa.eu/environment/waste/batteries/index.htm
- Batteries Directive 2006/66/EC: https://eur-lex.europa.eu/[…]/?uri=CELEX:02006L0066-20131230&rid=1
- And especially the Evaluation Report: https://ec.europa.eu/[…]/evaluation_report_batteries_directive.pdf which contains information on lifecycle of batteries, end of life, collection schemes/rates and treatment of spent batteries.
- Batteries waste data on Eurostat: https://ec.europa.eu/[…]/batterie

We hope that this may be useful for you.

With kind regards,
EEA Enquiry Service
