Dear EEA member, my company has used computers (working/restored) and it wishes to donate them to our Uganda NGO partners. Can you let me know the legal compliance steps to export reusable computers to Africa? What are the legal requirements?

Dear Ms. Susana,

Thank you for contacting the European Environment Agency (EEA).

The mandate of the EEA is to produce reports on the state and trends of the environment in Europe in its attempt to improve the environment and move towards sustainability in Europe. European environmental legislation is beyond the EEA’s working remit and we are thus not in a position to answer your question.

Information about EU regulations for exports of used electric and electronic equipment is specified under the Directive on waste electrical and electronic equipment (the WEEE Directive). We would then suggest that you consult this Directive (https://eur-lex.europa.eu/[…]/?uri=CELEX:32012L0019) or contact the European Commission for further information.

With kind regards,
EEA Enquiry Service
