Peat extraction in Latvia will be expanded. The EU supports this not necessary degradation of important habitats for animals .
Oct 20 - Hawita Group expanded peat production in Latvia ( with EU funding)
May 24 - Hawita takes over Nordtorf
There are plenty of alternatives to peat . Why the EU is supporting the industrial removal of peat in Latvia?
Together has Hawita 6.000 Hectares of peat extraction field in Latvia.

Dear Antonius Grotenhermen,

the EEA support the development and implementation of sound environmental policies in the EU and other EEA member countries by delivering timely, targeted, relevant and reliable information to policy-makers and the public; and produces reports on the state and trends of the environment in Europe.
European environmental legislation is beyond the Agency’s working remit. The EEA neither sets nor enforces environmental policies. Also, the EEA has no legal mandate for providing legal or technical assistance for legal complaints and no powers of investigation.
DG Environment is the branch of the Commission responsible for European environmental policy and legislation. The homepage of the DG Environment is located at:
