Can you tell me what exists in Europe for a Forest Fire Fuel Model Layer or a vegetation cover layer. I am a Forest Fire Behavior Analyst that has moved to Sweden. We want to develop a digitized layer of the existing vegetation to facilitate predicting fire risk (before a fire occurs) and predicting a fire's behavior (when we are unable to stop it in our initial attempt). We believe a 30 m resolution would be ideal. Corine Land Cover seems to not map smaller than 25 ha. While searching the web, I have discovered that Greece, Portugal and Italy have done some work in this direction.

Hello, It is correct that CLC does not map below 25 ha. We do not know of the data/map sources of the countries you mention. Sorry we cannot be of more help, but if you have specific questions to our CLC products you are welcome to come back to us. Kind regards.

Walker, again...Thank you for your response. It implies that each country provides Corine Land Cover with data/map sources and the Corine project compiles these into a European map. Is that true?

The situation at this moment is that 25 countries have finished CLC, but we do not have yet a European dataset put together and made available for download at the land.copernicus.eu website. We will start to do partial integrations and deliveries starting from this spring, and stepwise include further countries as they come. A full delivery will be done when all countries are ready.

Good evening walkerthornton.

I realise this thread is pretty old but I'm looking for help and thought you might be the person to ask.

Good afternoon,

This may not be the correct area to direct my question to, but hopefully it is a step in the right direction.

I am firefighter, specialising in wildfire management. I have spent the last few years working in Canada and Australia, but have recently returned to the UK. The geography and climate of my home country doesn't lend itself to my chosen career path, but I am aware that there is scope for someone in my position within Europe. However, despite my best efforts I am unable to find a centralised organisation to direct my queries at. If you could point me in the direction of someone who might give me some guidance it would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,

Tom.
