Please help me! Citizens of Zenica in Bosnia and Herzegovina are being poisoned by Mittal Steel. There is no one to protect these people. I have family living there and they are suffering. My 10 year old nephew is constantly coughing. I can just imagine what other children are going through. I have pictures of smoke as proof as well. Local government is not willing to do anything due to the fact Mitall Steel is areas biggest employer. Can somebody give me a contact so I can start complaining? Thank you in advance for your help.

Dear Mario Curcic,

As you may know, the European Environment Agency has no legal mandate for providing legal or technical assistance for legal complaints and no powers of investigation related to the allegations in your e-mail.

In case of complaints of European Member States, the EEA refers the plaintiff to the European Commission.

In your case, the Bosnian national authorities should be responsible for this matter. I, therefore, suggest that you contact the responsible national authorities in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Relevant contacts can be found in the following website:

You might also obtain assistance by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), as they are a globally acting organisation addressing environmental issues. The UNEP's website is located at:

I hope this will help.
