Hello, I am looking for European rules on neighborhood noise and especially those applied in Greece. Precisely I want to know the regulations in terms of air conditioning and noise that can cause. I am a French citizen and I found answers about what applies in France, but I would like to know what is applicable in a wider way in Europe and Greece in terms of allowed decibels. Thanks for your help.

There are no specific European rules on neighbourhood noise as this is largely considered to be an issue within the competence of national or specific local authorities who are responsible for e.g. setting local limits and related enforcement. The EU Environmental Noise Directive obliges countries to provide strategic noise maps every 5 years addressing environmental noise from road transport, rail, air and industry. Where noise exceeds certain indicator thresholds, authorities must draw up noise action plans to address this.

In addition, a number of equipment types also have noise limits established in product standards legislation and/or eco-design requirements. Further information on noise may be found on the website of the European Commission at
http://ec.europa.eu/environment/noise/index_en.htm and e.g. for products at http://ec.europa.eu/[…]/noise-emissions_en
