Hello,

I am currently doing a study about the energies (gas, wood, oil and district heating) used in European countries for collective heating (for collective housing buildings only, not individual houses) and most particularly about district heating.
I wondered if you could help me finding some answers.

My needs are the following :
  - Do you have any information about energy division (part of gas, wood, oil and district heating) for collective heating in European countries in collective housing buildings ?
  - Do you have any database or information about the average price of district heating in European countries (€/kWh) for example monthly or annually?

Besides, in France, in some collective housing buildings with collective heating installation (gas for example), we can put "heat spreaders" on the hot water radiators of all apartments so as to approximate the energy consumption of each apartment and divide the total gas consumption between the apartments. Do you know about this system, and the rules which are used to divide the total gas consumption between the apartments (in European countries)?

I thank you very much for your help and wish you a nice day.

Best regards,

Dear aurelie,

Unfortunately, there is no readily available data to answer your questions. Having said that, some estimations might be possible using Eurostat data and data from Euroheat and power.

For example, from Eurostat database SILC, we can have % of population living in apartments as opposed to single housing. Maybe this info can be combined with Eurostat data on final energy consumption in the residential sector to see what kind of sources are being used in apartments for heating (maybe by applying the proportionality of the share of people living in apartments in total residential consumption). Additional info on the share of population served by district heating and fuels used for district heating (mainly renewables and recycled heat) is available from the Euroheat and power website. Also, the country by country statistics from Euroheat and power contain information about the district heating price. Data for 2013 is available for free, latest data is commercially available as well.

So I suggest having a look at:
- Eurostat SILC database, data table called “Housing conditions – Average rooms per person, per tenure status and dwelling type” available here: http://ec.europa.eu/[…]/database to get the % of population living in apartments (which I understand is what the inquirer means by “collective housing”).
- Eurostat energy data: http://ec.europa.eu/[…]/statistics-illustrated.
- Euroheat and power website. Pages of interest: Country by country statistics: https://www.euroheat.org/publications/country-by-country/ for DH data including prices as well as Publications-Reports and studies- Stratego report (for data on DH data as well).

I hope this information is helpful.
