I am an environmentalist contacting EIAs for various projects, especially RES projects (wind farms, pvs etc).

In Annex I of Dir.92/43/EEC, priority habitats are indicated with an asterisk (*) before the name of the habitat.

In case of habitat 6210 "Semi-natural dry grasslands and scrubland facies on calcareous substrates (Festuco Brometalia)(*important
orchid sites)", the asterisk is inside the parenthesis.



My interpretation is that 6210 consists a priority habitat only if important orchid species are found (after field work) and it is not by default a priority habitat. It would be very helpful if you could confirm me if the above-mentioned point is correct.

yes, the interpretation is correct. The definition of ”important orchid sites” is given on page 69 of the EU habitat types interpretation manual at:
