I'm writing a paper about the effects of the Council Regulation No 1100/2007 ("establishing measures for the recovery of the stock of European eel").
Therefore, I would like to do a comparison between two countries.

My question is, whether you would have annual reports of countries, who are part of the eel management plan, and if you also have statistics of the over-all image of the stock of European eel.
If that is the case, it would be really great to get the report of the country, who is "the best" at protecting eels and taking measures to protect the stock of eel in Europe, as I'm planning to do a comparison between Germany and another country.

Thank you so much in advance for your help!

Dear Ms. Katharina Breinbauer,

Thank you for contacting the European Environment Agency (EEA).

Unfortunately, the EEA does not have access to the information that you are looking for.

We would suggest you to consult the following websites, that might be of interest for you, as well as to contact DG Maritime and Fish (DG MARE) for further information at

- National Eel management plans webpage:[…]/management_plans_en
- Eurostat – fishery statistics:[…]/Fishery_statistics
- JRC report ‘Economic impact of eel trade ban, general trends’:[…]/lb-na-26941-en-n.pdf

Please also note that some national eel management plans are published online such as in Denmark, the Netherlands and the UK.

We wish you all the best in your research.

With kind regards,
EEA Enquiry Service
