 Hello! I am a student doing my thesis on air quality and part of the study is about indicator sdg 11_50.

I need your assistance on the methodology that is followed in order to calculate the indicator on Europe level.

Also, for Greece's value of the indicator, I would like to know the exact stations that are used in the calculations and which are the data population that are referred to each station. Moreover, since in Greece there are no stations that fulfill the urban and background criteria for PM2.5, how is the value calculated for Greece?

Thank you for getting back to us.

The indicator SDG 11_50, that shows the population-weighted concentration for PM2.5 is calculated as follows: SDG PM= Σi Ci x Popi / Σi Popi.

where Ci is the annual mean PM2.5 concentration averaged over all (sub)urban background monitoring stations in a city i having a population of Popi. The summation is over all cities in a Member State or – in the case of the aggregated EU-28 - in the whole EU-28.

The stations considered can be checked, for instance, at the Air Quality Statistics viewer ( https://www.eea.europa.eu/[…]/air-quality-statistics ), and the population of each city is taken from Eurostat ( https://ec.europa.eu/[…]/urban-audit#ua20 ). We do the calculation internally and the only thing available is the final result.
