pedromonteiro Good morning:
I've downloaded some Natura databases from EEA, and found little problems, that can cause less little troubles.
For example, the table "dic_hd_species_annexII_IV_V" in "Article 17 database” <
http://www.eea.europa.eu/da[…]ats-directive-92-43-eec> seems to have:
i) duplicate "n2000_species_code" 1910 for Pteromys volans (correct) and Narcissus triandrus (wrong: the correct one is 1996, as far as I can see in Excel table "Extended codelist for species" at EIONET Reference Portal for Natura 2000 <http://bd.eionet.europa.eu/[…]/reference_portal>);
ii) crossed "n2000_species_code"s for Scrophularia grandiflora (herminii) ssp. reuteri (correct 1711, wrong 1708) and Scrophularia grandiflora ssp. grandiflora (correct 1708, wrong 1711).
I've also found that some species have old and new codes; this can lead to troubles in linking databases.
In my modest opinion, there should be an unique and uniform base reference that could fix one stable code for one taxon (different names for the same taxon should be linked to the same taxon code).
Thank you
Pedro Monteiro

andrewwijaya Hello!

I am a student in Durham university

I read an article on the electric car -
http://www.eea.europa.eu/ar[…]rt-revolution-in-the-making

But there is no clear indication of who the author of the article is.

If I may quote this article, can someone tell me who the original author is?

Thank you for your time

Kozuch Hello,

according to your licensing policy, all your data are eligible for use in commerdial derivatives. At this page:

http://www.eea.europa.eu/[…]/nationally-designated-areas-national-cdda-5

you say:
This information is from the European Common Database on Designated Areas established and managed collaboratively by the European Environment Agency, the UNEP-World Conservation Monitoring Centre and the Council of Europe, based on data provided by national sources

and also:
EEA does not have permission to distribute some or all sites reported by Austria, Bulgaria, Estonia, Ireland, Malta, the Netherlands, Romania, Spain and Turkey. Copyright has to be mentioned for Estonia, Finland, Germany and Slovenia.

My questlion: can I still reuse in commrecial derivatives vector GIS data from this page? especially following files:
CDDA_v9_points.zip (ZIP archive)
CDDA_v9_polygons.zip (ZIP archive)

I want to use this data in www.openstreetmap.org project.

Thank you for answer in advance!

rcoward I am trying to access EEA data on consumption emissions of the EU states - previously found at http://www.eea.europa.eu/[…]/co2-emissions-caused-by-consumption but now it seems to have been made password only or not be there any more.
Where can I find this data on consumption emissions (embedded emissions)?

iii. To engage in any and other charitable activities related to environmental protection and pollution prevention other than the education and training.

OFCOURSE WE ARE IN THE PROCESS OF SEARCHING THE FUNDING AGENCIES BUT THE PURPOSE OF THIS FORUM IS NOT THAT.
FRANKLY SPEAKING I'M A SUBSCRIBER OF E - LATTER FROM EEA SINCE 2006 AND I SUBSCRIBED TO GET MAINLY EDUCATIONAL INFORMATION BECAUSE IN 2006 I WAS PREPARING SOME LESSONS TO OPEN UNIVERSITY OF SRI LANKA FOR THE FINAL YEAR STUDENTS WHO FOLLOW THE BACHELOR OF INDUSTRIAL STUDIES. AT THAT TIME I THOUGHT ABOUT WHY CAN'T WE WRITE SOME LESSONS TO SCHOOL CHILDREN IN ORDER TO CHANGE THEIR BEHAVIOURAL PATTERN TOWARDS THE ECO FRIENDLY LIFE STYLE WHICH WILL REDUCE THE ECOLOGICAL FOOT PRINT WITH TIME WHEN THEY GROW.
HOWEVER, IT WAS NOT MATERIALIZED DURING THAT PERIOD BUT IT WAS MATERIALIZED IN THE LATEST PART OF LAST YEAR AND AN ASSICIATION WAS FORMED WITH THE GOVERNMENT APPROVAL IN MARCH 2012 AND THE FOUNDATION ORGANIZING WORKS ARE IN PROGRESS.

OUR MAIN AIM IS TO CONVINCE THE YOUNGER SOCIETY

I SHALL BE OBLIGED IF EEA SUPPORT ME TO ADVISE ME AND MY TEAM REGARDING THE PREPARATION OF COURSE MATERIALS WITH CURRENT GLOBAL ISSUES

AS SRI LANKANS WE DID NOT CONTRIBUTE MUCH TO THE ECOLOGICAL FOOT PRINT BUT WITH TIME WE DO NOT INCREASE THE WEIGHTAGE WHICH WILL AFFECT OUR FUTURE IN SEVERAL WAYS. INCLUDING THE DISTRIBUTION AMONG THE MANKIND.

AGAIN I THANK EEA FOR THE OPPORTUNITY GIVEN TO ME FOR THE DISCUSSION IN THIS FORUM AND I WILL MEET TO DISCUSS ABOUT OUR ORGANIZATIONAL IMPROVEMENTS

aniskasa Dear all,

I would like to inform you about a dreadful application that has been placed just recently in Finland.

The Saimaa ringed seal is an extremely endangered species, living only in the lake Saimaa in Finland, nowhere else in the world. One of the biggest threats to the species is under-ice fishing with nets during the spring time, when the baby seals are born and too weak to survive from entangling in the nets.

There are some 260 individuals in the whole world, for more information see
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saimaa_ringed_seal

In the application, the local fishers apply for permit to start under ice fishing this spring in 23 regions in the lake Saimaa. According to the local environmental protection organization, even placing such an application is a demonstration of total disregard towards the seals and their extinction from this planet. Even the local residents and summer cottage owners agree that the species should be saved, even if it means that they are not allowed to fish using nets for a time period that is only a few months every year. It is only the inexplicable carelessness and total lack of environmental interest of a few parties that cause most of the threat to the seals.

The application is processed in the finnish Centre of Economic Development, Transport and the Environment on 29th of March, or in two days.

EU has previously pointed out the the actions Finland has taken in order to protect and save the species from extinction are not sufficient enough. I'm asking you to use all your power to contact the above mentioned centre and try to influence their decision making in this matter before it is too late for the Saimaa ringed seal.

Best Regards,

Arttu Niskasaari
Finland.

fredericobarreira Hello,

I have downloaded data for Portugal’s GHG emissions from your website:
- ETS emissions (verified emissions)
http://www.eea.europa.eu/[…]/emissions-trading-viewer
- Total emissions (sectors 1-7, excluding 5. LULUCF)
http://www.eea.europa.eu/[…]/greenhouse-gases-viewer

Regarding the collected data I would appreciate your help clarifying the following questions:
1) I determined the non-ETS emissions subtracting the ETS emissions to Total emissions. Is this approach correct? I would like to obtain a similar chart to the one you provide for the EU-15:
http://www.eea.europa.eu/[…]/ets-and-non-ets-emission

2) The Kyoto Protocol target for Portugal is +27% vs. 1990 total emissions. Considering the 1990 figure provided by your website (59,4 MtCO2), I obtain a target of 75,5 MtCO2. There’s a slightly difference compared to the official figure of 76,4 MtCO2. Can you please help me understanding the reason of this difference?
http://ec.europa.eu/environment/pdf/policy/portugal.pdf

3) A similar situation occurs with the target for the non-ETS target for 2020 (+1% vs. 2005). Using EEA’s data I obtain a target of 50,0 MtCO2 (1,01 x (Total emissions – ETS emissions)2005). The official target refers 48,4 MtCO2. Is there any reason for this difference?
http://www20.gencat.cat/docs/sue/Continguts/Serveis/Publicacions/Arxiu/INFORME%20SEMESTRAL%20FRANCA_EN.pdf

Thank you in advance.

Kind regards,
Frederico Barreira
