Start a discussion...Special waste regulations 1996

Where a former Landfill site has been covered by this Act, having a history of Waste material classified as
Special:
Waste that has hazardous properties and is defined in the Special Waste Regulations 1996. Such properties may be flammable, irritant, toxic, harmful, carcinogenic or corrosive.
Liquids/sludge:
Industrial wastewater, sewage sludge and chemical wastes mixed with municipal solid waste.

Could you please comment on development of this land for habitation purposes?
Do you consider it safe to live on this land, disturb the soil by excavation and generally live with a young family on such a site with a history of Irritant, Harmful ,Toxic, Carcinogenic and corrosive materials?

This site is in the UK

Many thanks.

Dear Peter,
We suggest that is best for you to contact your environmental authority and ask more detailed information about the types of waste in the landfill and how the hazardous substances are dealt with when redeveloping the land. If it is a complaint you have to address it to DG Environment. The EEA has no information about this specific case.
