Hi, I am working on a dissertation about Recycling of Shipyard Blasting Waste. Is there any legislation regarding such waste (spent blast media and paint chips whether hazardous or nonhazardous), where can I find the information? I would like to know (if possible) how the shipyards currently treat the waste.
Thanks,
Chunping

Dear M. Chunping Qi,

Thank you for contacting the European Environment Agency (EEA).

Ship recycling is not a topic that the EEA follows in depth. We would therefore suggest that you consult the following pages, that may be of interest for you:

- DG Environment Ship Recycling: https://ec.europa.eu/environment/waste/ships/index.htm
- European list of ship recycling facilities: https://ec.europa.eu/environment/waste/ships/list.htm
- EU legislation on ship recycling: https://ec.europa.eu/[…]/legislation.htm

Please contact DG Environment for further information on this topic via https://europa.eu/european-union/contact/write-to-us_en.

With kind regards,
EEA Enquiry Service
