Hi,

Hope all is well.

I am looking for data on carbon allowances and carbon emissions. However, I have to use this data on a firm specific basis. Therefore, I need to match the data found in CITL to another database which contains company information.

One way to do so is to extract information on free allocation of emissions allowances and verified emissions at the installation level (preferably for the period of 2008-2018). Then I would have to match the addresses of the installations to certain companies.

Therefore, my question is how do I extract information on free allocation of emissions allowances and verified emissions at the installation level, while also extracting the addresses?

Many thanks in advance.

Kind regards,
Jan-Willem

Dear M. Jan Willem,

Thank you for contacting the European Environment Agency (EEA)

The EU ETS data viewer provides an easy access to emission trading data contained in the European Union Transaction Log (EUTL). The EUTL is a central transaction log, run by the European Commission, which checks and records all transactions taking place within the trading system. The EU ETS data viewer provides aggregated data by country, by main activity type and by year on the verified emissions, allowances and surrendered units of the more than 12 000 stationary installations reporting under the EU emission trading system, as well as 1400 aircraft operators. Please see: https://www.eea.europa.eu/[…]/emissions-trading-viewer-1.

Within this data viewer, you will be able to retrieve emission trading data by country and per sector for the period 2005-2018.

As regards the list of installations covered by the ETS with their yearly verified emissions and allowances, we would suggest that you consult the Compliance Data sheet for 2018 and the verified emissions for 2018 both available on DG Clima website at https://ec.europa.eu/[…]/registry_en#tab-0-1.

We hope that this may be useful for you.

With kind regards,
