Hello everyone,

I am in need of a current map of protected areas that includes non-EU countries, specifically Ukraine. I am working on a paper dealing with the protected area network in the Carpathian Mountains, particularly looking at how it can aid the conservation of European bison. It is important to find out how currently occupied bison habitat overlaps with protected areas (nationally designated or Natura2000), for which purpose I have consulted EEA's map (found here http://www.eea.europa.eu/[…]/european-protected-areas-1). However, according to this map, there are no protected areas at all in the Ukraine, which doesn't seem right. Is this because the map only includes those countries that have adapted Natura2000? If so, would anyone know where I can find a detailed map of protected areas in the Ukraine? Thank you very much for your help!

The EEA member or collaborating countries do not include Ukraine, see also http://www.eea.europa.eu/about-us/countries-and-eionet.

I would recommend that you visit Protected planet, http://www.protectedplanet.net, which is the new face of the World Database on Protected Areas.

Thank you very much for your quick reply. I have visited that page but wasn't able to find any map-based data, which is what I need. I will be getting in touch with them. Thanks again!
