Hello
does anyone have experience of working with "1.A.3.b.i-iv Road transport hot EFs Annex 2018_Dic.xlsx" to extract emission factors for trucks? do you know what does "segment" and "Technology" column mean in this spreadsheet? is there a general guideline for users of this spreadsheet?

Thank you

Dear M. 'HajarPb',

Thank you for contacting the European Environment Agency (EEA).

The use of the emission factors listed into the Excel spreadsheet is linked to the application of a Tier 3 methodology. Detailed information on how to use the emission factors is available in the relevant EMEP/EEA Guidebook chapter at the following link: https://www.eea.europa.eu/[…]/view.

To apply a Tier 3 methodology, several formulas for different type of truck need to be applied.
As mentioned in the Guidebook chapter (page 73), heavy-duty vehicles are distinguished into rigid and articulated ones. To proceed, you need to work in steps: first you need to identify the type of vehicles you want to study and then you need to identify if abatement technologies (dfp, SCR or ERG) are used. If you don’t have all necessary information, you could use tier 2 methodology, which is a simpler way to assess emissions.

About the Excel columns, the field “Segment” represents the weight limit for the trucks and the field “Technology” represents the abatement technologies that can be used to reduce PM/NOx emissions.

We hope that this may be useful for you.

With kind regards,
