Hi,

I am currently doing some research about 'environmental impact assessment' (EIA) and would like to know if you had some information on this topic.
I am aware that there are some regulations in place (both at a country and EU levels) and as such a certain number of projects must go through a mandatory EIA (source: http://ec.europa.eu/environment/eia/eia-legalcontext.htm).
What I am looking at is basically if there are some numbers available about the following:
- how many projects are concerned on a yearly basis in the EU?
- how many parties are involved in these EIAs?
- how long do these EIAs take on average?
- is there a list about companies that are allowed to run these assessments?

Thank you very much for your help.

Regards,

Jimmy

Dear Jimmy,

The EEA produces environmental reports and indicators, which assist the European Community in its attempt to improve the environment and move towards sustainability in Europe. EU legislation - including EIA - is beyond the working remit of the EEA.
However, please find below some sources of information you may find interesting:

- The homepage of DG Environment offers a section about environmental assessment at: http://ec.europa.eu/environment/eia/home.htm
- useful contact information can be found at: http://ec.europa.eu/environment/eia/contacts.htm
- The International association for impact assessment: http://www.iaia.org/
- Environmental Impact Assessment: a guide to procedures: http://www.communities.gov.uk/[…]/environmentalimpactassessment
- Impact Assessment Tools: http://smap.ew.eea.europa.eu/test1/fol203823/

I hope this will help
