Hi, I want to know how many sites have been designated (by country) for the harbour porpoise. This just concerns sites where it is the primary reason for site selection or is listed on the site details as a qualifying feature. Not as a non-qualifying feature. Where can I find this information?

Thanks. I've tried both of those. The public viewer shows 197 sites for harbour porpoise but I don't think these were all designated with harbour porpoise as the primary reason for site selection as it shows a number in the UK where I know this is not the case. I have also tried to use the database in particular looking at the 'Species' table but I cannot find any code which specifies whether the species the site was designated for was the primary reason or a non-qualifying feature.

Dear SB2015,

it is unfortunately not possible to retrieve what the "primary reason" for the selection of a site is from the Natura 2000 data. We would suggest you to study the SDF in detail http://eur-lex.europa.eu/[…]/LexUriServ.do?uri=CELEX:32011D0484:EN:NOT in order to understand the limitation of methodology.

As to the process of site designation, it is a difficult procedure. There is especially a lot of on-going discussions regarding harbour porpoises in the UK. The Natura 2000 viewer and data cannot be used to find information on this process.
