I have downloaded the "Corine Land Cover 1990 raster data ", I have unzipped using peazip, 7zip, and a utility on Ubuntu; all with the same results that I cannot open the .tif file in irfanview, envi, or arcmap. Any ideas?

Thanks for the help,

Dear maxb,
we assumed that you refer to this version:[…]/corine-land-cover-1990-raster-2
The file is working fine under windows and under linux debian (same type of distribution as Ubuntu which you are using). If you were referring to another file, we can check that specific file if you will provide a link to the dataset you experienced problems with.

Many regards

Yes, that is the link -- the file is Just this morning, I downloaded and installed Qgis and it was able to open the file okay. So, I guess that the data are in some sort of proprietary format.
